Luna's Night

Hello guys! PonyCon was excellent! As you may know, I was on the committee this year and I really wanted to try and reflect the newer side of the pony fandom as well as the old. We had panels and games geared around the new series, and even got ourselves some bonafied Bronies along for the event! I think they enjoyed it, which pleases me so much because I was worried they'd all be too daunted by the oldschool collectors. PonyCon prides itself on silly game show quizzes for entertainment and I think next year we may have to have two separate tracks; one for the oldschool collectors and one for the G4 fandom, because they are becoming a large presence at pony events and I think that's absolutely awesome! That said, a lot of older collectors don't follow the new series (for shame!) so we don't want them to miss out, too.

Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud here. I'll be on the committee next year (I hope, at least!) so I've already been thinking of ways to improve on this year's con. I'll get some photos up when they start filtering through. For now, though, I've launched straight into Expo preparation. I should have spent today printing but I was hit by the inspiration bug and just couldn't bear going to Expo without a Luna Halloween picture, given how awesome she was in the latest episode of Friendship is Magic. I mean, c'mon. My Little Pony AND Halloween? Talk about a Reapergasm.

The photos on Facebook look pretty awesome! It looks like a fairly small con still, how many people were there?

What's your current pricing for prints like the one above? I'm consistently amazed at how much pony merch sells for on the Equestria Daily links. If you have any one-off prints or paintings you could make a bucket.

Hmm, this would be my standard £3 for A4 and £5 for A3. Think I should print a whole bunch for Expo? I'm not sure how popular fanmade pony merchandise is, but I'm going to assume "very". You've got me tempted to try a canvas "one off" print of this for eBay, though...

Given how many bronies were at Ayacon, I'd be really surprised if there wasn't a huge group of them at Expo. (Emily and I may be included in that...). I'd guess any Pony stuff on your table would be pretty popular this time around.

So sad I missed this year's Con. When any news for next year is available please post! I'll be sure to pack up wife and baby and bring some cash to burn ;) I've seen some pics on Brags posts at the Arena and it sure looked like you galls had an amazing time.

I'm going to ask a really silly question now - what tools/software do you use to paint with, and is that digital painting? because it looks... real. I'm interested how you get such an effect (damn, I've been out of the "art-loop" for so long.)

Also, I feel it has to be said:

"I really like her mane."

It's 100% Paint Tool Sai! Haha someone on DA refused my submission to a group because I submitted it under digital haha. I'm so pleased it looks real though! It'sallll in the textures (and the fact Sai is the best program ever)

The Halloween episode was a-ma-zing! I loved that Nightmare Moon had become a mythological figure, the scary god in the woods that the ponies sacrificed candy to. And Luna herself was delightful and hilarious. ("HAVE SOME FUN! IN THE FORM OF SPIDERS!")

Loverly pic!
