2011 is dead. Long live 2012!

Happy New Year, everyone! I saw 2012 in surrounded by my best friends, soaking wet on a hill in Bristol. There's a park in Bristol we've spent New Years for the past few years, where lots of other folk congregate for midnight. It overlooks the city, so we get a gorgeous view of the fireworks around. and the atmosphere is usually fantastic. We tried to light a Chinese lantern, but the combination of rain and wind rendered that an utterly failed endeavor. As our broken, soggy lantern was discarded was saw one solitary lantern skimming across the ground. The atmosphere was incredible, everyone began coaxing it up into the air, cheering loudly and stupidly when it finally ascended. We sang Auld Lang Syne, hung about and generally enjoyed the moment. This was my second time seeing the New Year in with Moose, too, so that made it extra special. We've been together almost two years now, and sometimes I still can't believe it. 2011 brought with it some pretty tough times for us, but I really hope the worst is behind us and that the big niggles have been sorted, at least as best they can be. I love him very, very much. I want can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for us.

~ In 2011 I...
  • Had fish nibble at my feet in one of those 'new' fish foot spas, before they popped up everywhere.
  • Celebrated 1 year with Moose, and stayed in a hotel in Bristol to celebrate.
  • Went to Brighton. Many, many times.
  • Visited Longleat, got mugged by monkeys before getting lost in the maze and soaking wet in the rain.
  • Grew my nails! For the first time ever.
  • Visited Camden Market for the first time.
  • Made more money at MCM Expo than I imagined I ever could have.
  • Saw Jonathan Coulton at Bristol (again <3)
  • Celebrated my birthday on a canal boat.
  • Went to Ayacon, cosplayed as Apple Jack, met my first 'bronies'.
  • Spent a lot of time dicking about and being awesome with my friends Laura and Archer
  • Attended the Great Dorset Steam Fair. As usual.
  • Got to know Plymouth as Moose settled in to university down there.
  • Saw Wicked, Legally Blonde and Priscilla in the theatres.
  • Went to the 'Summer of Sonic' convention, and caught up with some lovely old friends.
  • Experienced My Little Pony becoming The Biggest Thing Ever.
  • Had my first ever bikini wax :o
  • Got 'caught up' in the London Riots when I visited for Moose's birthday (and by 'caught up' I mean nothing really happened but my trains were all canceled -_-)
  • Joined the UKPonyCon committee
  • ...and helped run UKPonyCon in Brighton, which was ace, by the way.
  • Watched John Cleese turn on the Christmas lights in Bath
  • Celebrated Hogswatch
  • Visited the BBC Studios
  • and met the famous Coca Cola 'Christmas Truck'
Films I caught in the cinema were:
TRON: Legacy (a good film in its own right, but utterly unrelated to the 1982 movie in every way apart from tenuous links. Shame, but very pretty.)
Tangled (one of the best films I've seen in a very long time. 'I've Got A Dream' is one of my favourite musical songs, ever.)
Paul (thoroughly enjoyed.)
Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides (it was okay. I don't remember much about it really, but I always enjoy Jack Sparrow, I guess.)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (best HP film in a while, for me. Totally accurate to the book in almost every way, and the bits they changed were just so perfect and beautifully done I wouldn't have it any other way. LOVED it. MUCH better than part 1.)
Captain America: The First Avenger (actually one of my favourite films of the year. Extremely good.)
I Don't Know How She Does It (not as average as I feared it would be. Actually really enjoyed it and was so happy it avoided a lot of cliches in the genre.)
The Lion King in 3D (the 3D didn't ruin it at all, and it was a treat to watch again on the big screen.)
Arthur Christmas (very nice film! Genuinely enjoyed it. The 'we must save Christmas!' thing didn't seem tired at all. Just a shame it was released in early November and not, y'know, near Christmas.)
The Awakening (I love a good mystery, or a good ghost story. This one had both.)
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (Just as good as the first, imho. Loved it.)

~ 2012 New Years Resolutions ~
  • Draw more. Sketch every day. Doesn't have to be good. Just has to be done. (I have a variant of this every year. One day I'll stick to it.)
  • Blog more. I miss LiveJournal so much.
  • VLOG. And actually do it, this time. A video a week would be nice, if utterly ambitious.
  • Actually create at least the bare bones of a comic. Art is nice, but I miss the dedication of comic creation.
  • Read more. Like, at all, frankly.
  • Actually, finally, get through my backlog of video games, DVDs and books. I have box-sets and brand new games still in shrink wrap. It's ridiculous. I'd like to make a proper project of it, blogging reactions and thoughts along the way.
