So long, March!

With March nearly over, 2012 truly starts. I've never been a fan of the beginning months each year, but the weather's been so beautiful lately that it hasn't even felt like Spring. The convention circuit starts in April, so now I'm going full pelt in time for Kitacon, which is just around the corner!

In March...

x On the 28th it was Mum's birthday, so we went to see Top Hat at the Bristol Hippodrome. It was fantastic! I've always loved the film (it was one of the first 'classic' movies I ever saw) and the stage adaptation was pretty darned accurate to it. Genuinely funny, beautiful costumes and, of course, outstanding dance numbers. They included the song 'Outside of That, I Love You' which I don't remember being in the film, but I've been humming off and on since I heard it. As much as I love the big numbers in old musicals, the catchy, sharp tunes are the ones that stick with me (like 'I Could Do Without You' from Calamity Jane, which is still probably my favourite musical ever, plus Doris Day is just stunning and I loves her.)

x awesome G1 My Little Pony shirt I found at Primark. I'm not a huge fan of the 'omg so retro' stuff you get these days, but I like the in-joke that I want specifically a My Little Pony.

x I'm in love with my new phone (a Sony Xperia S, finally biting the bullet and returning to contract). It takes the most beautiful photos, and has a gorgeous HD screen to enjoy them on.

x I'm going to Disneyland Paris for my birthday! We got the hotel and flights booked the other day, and now I can't stop thinking about how much fun it's going to be! I've been to California's Disneyland and Florida's Disney World before, so I'm a little apprehensive that it'll be a bit of a let down by comparison, but I'm going with my friends and boyfriend, so I just know it'll be amazing, regardless. Anyway, I wanted to scrapbook the whole experience, so when I found this adorable travel journal in Paperchase, I had to snap it up!

x Gamers in the UK will be very aware that our only real gaming chain has gone into administration. A lot of people have huge reservations about the company as a whole, but I always find it incredibly sad when yet another highstreet store shuts up shop. For all their faults as a company, Game was the store I queued up outside at 9 am for brand new game releases, where I'd always find like-minded people, where I always headed to to purchase my newest games. People say that dedicated game stores are dinosaurs, and 'good riddance' when Steam and XBox Live makes purchasing games so much easier, or when companies like Amazon offer next-day delivery. I personally hate that. I hate how impersonal online shopping is. When I buy a gift for somebody, I don't want to hand them a download code. When I want to buy a new game, I want to browse, chat, and enjoy the experience. I think it's incredibly sad that there will be children who never get to experience that - that buying a game "in real life" for them will be to throw it in with the groceries during the weekly Tesco shop. Buying a new video game should be an experience. I guess I'm just sentimental and corny like that.

x Finally, I treated myself to these adorable Nuka-Cola earrings from the Etsy store 'Gamer Babe Boutique'. Despite my (serious, haha) misgivings about the shop's name, the products are lovely and I can't wait to receive my lovely earrings! I hope they come in time for Kitacon. I won't be in cosplay this convention so I'll have to nerd it up in other ways.

So sad to hear about Game. It was the best job I had and have some very fond memories of working there.
