Blogging Personality Crisis.

reaperfox's Profile Picture

Guys, I need some help.I'm having a bit of a blogging personality crisis, and I'd really appreciate a little guidance from anyone who actually reads this thing.

For a very long time I've battled with the fact I am a huge nerd, who wants to talk about fandom and conventions and gaming and general geekery, but I also want to share snippets of my world, life-blog and create fashion posts. I want to talk about places I go and outfits I wear, do silly girlie makeup posts and 'what's in my bag?' features. I want to sell clothing and crafts and get excited here about my new adorable shoes (seriously, they're adorable.)

...But I also really want to talk about e-sports, my newfound love of Magic: The Gathering, how I feed top lane in League of Legends, conventions, my art and fandom politics.

How do I reconcile these things here on Livejournal, without always boring 50% of my readers 100% of the time? If you're here for fandom and geekery, my life-blogging will bore you silly. If you're here for the slice-of-life junk, a detailed essay on e-sports in the UK will bore you silly, too.

So I guess I'm asking what you think I should do?

I could create a new blog for detailed, more polished posts about geeky lifestyle stuff, essays, rambles, where I can discuss gaming, television and conventions with a 'me' edge to it (so expect silly posts about gamer fashion choices, rants about attention-seeking, nail polish that looks like Mario mushrooms and copious amounts of ponies, probably.) It'll be a place where my posts are slightly more polished and have, hopefully, a little more substance to them than the usual waffle here. Maybe.

Or... I could keep it all here on Livejournal, all in one place, and let people skim or skip posts entirely if they don't care for the content. I've had this place over a decade now, and even though people don't use Livejournal all that much anymore, it's become my home online and I'd like to think folks RSS it even if they don't have LJ accounts themselves, so I don't want to abandon ship. Hell, I won't abandon LJ all the while it lives even a little bit.

Advice? I'd really appreciate it! Please comment if you've anything to add :)

Fuck what the others think. This is YOUR space of the internet. Write about what YOU want. If someone's not interested in it, they can skip the post. Simple as.

Keep it here if you just are worried about whether or not your friends want to read it (I do!)

But if you're trying to create an Internet personality space for yourself, like Felicia day or wil wheaton or something, a network like Wordpress or blogger might do you one better.

This is YO PLACE on the interwebs and you can do whatever you darn well want with it. I mean, the tone of my stuff has changed to include new things over the years, but the general "this is what happened today" main idea remains the same. PS that picture of your DS is really cool.
