Birthday Bonzos!

As I hinted at yesterday, I got home late from a small Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band gig in Bath. I'd seen the full troupe (sans Vivian Stanshall, who died in 1995) before, a few years ago, but since they were local just in time for Luke's birthday, his parents paid for tickets so that he, Sarah and I could go and see them again!

They're a sort of Monty Python-esque musical comedy troupe... I don't think I can describe the strangeness of their act very well, so I'll let Wikipedia do the talking:

The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (also known as The Bonzo Dog Band) are a band created by a group of British art-school denizens of the 1960s.[1] Combining elements of music hall, trad jazz, psychedelic pop with surreal humour and avant-garde art, the Bonzos came to the attention of a broader British public through a 1968 ITV comedy show, Do Not Adjust Your Set.

I'm not actually a fan of the absurd, silly humour that Britain's kind of famous for. I've never really enjoyed Monty Python all that much... it's just too silly, which I appreciate must sound odd coming from somebody who collects My Little Ponies and draws cartoons for a living. However, I've genuinely enjoyed the two Bonzo gigs I've been to. I think the atmosphere of the audience and the sheer sense of enjoyment radiating from the band members helps. They clearly love every moment of it and enjoy each other's company, which is probably a good thing since they've worked together for about fifty years, haha. It's all very strange, and very fun.

Oh, and happy birthday Luke!
